Enchanting Alchemy: Behind the Scenes of a Magical Studio Session with Angus the Magician

It's been a while since my last blog post, and I've been 'focusing' a lot on school photography and recently delving into the exciting world of school video tours. However, this week marked a delightful return to the studio, this time with the incredibly talented local magician, Angus. The experience was so enchanting that I couldn't resist sharing it in a blog post.

My journey with Angus began when he posted about his magical services on Facebook. Intrigued, I reached out for a potential portrait session, and to my delight, Angus was on board. Eager to make the most of this magical opportunity, I dove into the realm of inspiration, scouring the internet for potential setups and shots. Milanote, my trusty app/website for creating design boards, became the canvas for my brainstorming process. I love categorizing the sample pictures based on various elements like background colors and costume changes, making the studio setup more manageable.

Once the images were grouped, the real exploration began. I dissected each photo, studying the intricate details that made them captivating. How did the original photographer communicate through their image, sparking that desire in me to recreate their style? The experimentation followed—playing with lighting positions, adjusting power, and even swapping out color gels to craft an image that resonated with the style I aimed to achieve. This process serves as a valuable exercise in skill enhancement and broadens my creative horizons.

The results speak for themselves. The studio session with Angus yielded captivating images that not only showcase his magic but also reflect the collaborative artistry between photographer and magician. Moreover, the experience was doubled by the impromptu mini magic show Angus treated me to—an unexpected and delightful bonus.
